Course Playability During Irrigation Construction

Hi All,

We have very recently received the date for the irrigation works to start, which is also the date we will go to a 9-hole course. We do not have a finish date yet but estimate around 25 weeks until works are completed. This timeframe may come in or go out, it is not possible to give you better information at this point.

As of the 9th of March, the course we will be playing until Stage 1 has been completed is:

10th, 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 8th. From the 8th you will need to proceed back to the 10th to commence the “back” 9 holes for competition play. The estimated period we will be playing these holes is until sometime in May. The Stage 2 temporary course will then commence, we will advise when and which holes as soon as we know.

Due to the restricted hole availability, the amount of available tee times has been reduced until the works are completed. I have reduced the tee time gap back to 7 minutes between groups to maximise the tee availability for players. The booking timesheets have been updated and uploaded into MiClub.

I need to advise everyone, you are required to be ready to tee up on the 10th hole for the back 9 in 2 hours, no longer. There will not be any ability to tee off earlier (maybe a few minutes if the players in front are quicker), if you are late there will be stroke penalties applied to the first group back later than their tee time, as provided in the rules of golf for slow play. I suggest if you think you will have trouble keeping to this timeframe, you select a tee time at the very back of the field. Keep in mind, whilst doing this will not hold up the players in the daily competition times, it will still hold up green fee players.

To keep it simple to remember, if you have booked a tee time of 8:30 am, your “back” 9 tee time is 10:30am.

New Available Tee Times are as follows:

  • Saturdays:
    • 7:00 – 8:45, and 11:00 – 12:45
    • 120 players maximum (30 groups of 4)
  • Tuesdays and Thursdays:
    • 7:00 – 8:45
    • 60 players maximum (15 groups of 4)
  • Wednesdays:
    • 8:00 – 9:45
    • 60 players maximum (15 groups of 4)
  • Tee times will change to a 7:30 start on Tuesdays, Thursdays & Saturdays when sunrise changes, the times will extend by 30 mins to compensate.

We will be monitoring how the times are going, tee stewarding and monitoring play around the course. If we find the tee times need to go back to 8 minutes instead of 7, there will be a further reduction in available tee times. This will mean 8 fewer places mid-week (2 groups) and 16 fewer places on Saturdays (4 groups). If everyone keeps to the maximum 2-hour limit we will not need to change times and reduce competition tee availability.

We are aware that some competition types will hold up speed of play, most competitions we will play initially will be Stableford and Par to help everyone keep to the timeframes. Please keep an eye on the booking system and website, we may need to make changes to trophy competition dates. Men’s Club Championships is one that we will need to move until later in the year, mixed events, eclectics, and the like are also being relocated or possibly cancelled.

On the bright side, once the short-term pain of playing a 9-hole course is over, we will see a big improvement in the fairways condition as the magic ingredient (water) will be available to the areas currently missing out and in need of love.

Yours in golf,
Clay Green
